Nayanthara’ starer Mookuthi Amman 2 is reportedly set for a theatrical release during Diwali 2026. The director Sundar C starrer is in post-production. It is the sequel to the 20 Tamil blockbuster film Mookuthi Amman.
Filmmaker Sreedhar Pillai hinted that the film will release during the festival. We still need to hear from the producers for the official confirmation of the film’s release date.
Directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan, Mookuthi Amman released on Disney+ Hotstar in 20. Nayanthara played the lead role of a goddess, who assist a journalist reporting against fake godmen through comedy.
In Mookuthi Amman 2, Nayanthara will reprise her character in a dual role. Sundar C is at the director’s chair, while RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan have moved on from the project.
Production house completed the shooting of the film in December 20. They conducted major portions with technical crews exceeding 2,000 and the film went more than half-a-year in production.
Production and Cast Details
Nayanthara, Regina Cassandra, Suneel, Yogi Babu, Abhinaya, Ineya, Garuda Raam, Singampuli, Vichu Vishwanath, Ajay Ghosh, and Myna Nandhini are starring in the film. Kannada actor Duniya Vijay will make his Tamil debut with this film. Sneha and Kushboo will appear in cameos.
Produced by Vels Film International and Rowdy Pictures, the film reportedly has a budget of more than Rs 100 crores. Music will be by Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi. Cinematography will be taken care by Gopi Amarnath and editing by Fenny Oliver.
Reportedly Sold OTT Rights
OTT rights of Nayanthara’s film have found many buyers and attracted big bucks. Industry tracker Ramesh Bala reported that makers sold the OTT rights to JioHotstar for a big amount. We need an official confirmation for the deal amount.
Regina Cassandra is playing the antagonist role in the movie. Her role is said to be unique, and she has given one of the best performances of her career.
Speaking about Nayanthara, producer Ishari K Ganesh revealed that she went on a month-long fast for the film. He said in March 20 at a pooja event function ‘I should tell about Nayanthara madam. She has been on a fast for almost a month now. She also fasted for a month before playing the character of Amman in Mookuthi Amman part 1 as well. She is excited about this character and the story.’
May clash with Suriya’s 47
Assuming that they stick to releasing the film on Diwali 20, Mookuthi Amman 2 will enter the Pan-India film Ramayana which is also releasing during Diwali 20. Another big film which will clash with Nayanthara’s film is Suriya starrer 47.
Urvasi recently posted a video from the sets confirming that part 2 will have nothing in common with the first film. She also mentioned that the shoot got over in a short time.
