Ramayana Secures Early November 5 Release in Australia, Setting Up Clash with Godzilla Minus Zero

Ramayana: Part One will premiere in Australia one day earlier than previously scheduled, Sony Pictures Australia confirmed to Variety. Nitesh Tiwari’ film is now set to debut November 5, 2026 in Australian cinemas, instead of waiting until its global release date of November 6. Ramayana had been tipped to overlap with Takashi Yamazaki’ Godzilla Minus Zero, but will instead leapfrog over the Hollywood blockbuster thanks to the early Australian release.

Godzilla Minus Zero lands exclusively in North American IMAX theatres November 6, setting up a straight box office showdown between two blockbusters duking it out for premium- and IMAX screens. In Australia, Ramayana will play exclusively in premium large-format venues. Its worldwide release date will not change and will open November 6.

Sony Advances Indian Epic Ramayana‘: Nitesh Tiwari helm will debut overseas before India and other international territories. It will bow in Indian cinemas November 8.

Ramayana Advances in Australia

Sony Pictures Australia confirmed the November 5 bow for Ramayana. With its new Australian release date, the Indian epic will have first-run exposure prior to Godzilla Minus Zero landing the day after Thanksgiving. Ramayana will also receive an extended window in Australia, likely to coincide with Diwali theatrical business.

Godzilla Minus Zero Sets Up IMAX Debut

Godzilla Minus Zero, written, directed, and served by Takashi Yamazaki, will debut theatrically in IMAX theatres following its world premiere at the New York Film Festival. The follow-up to Yamazaki’ Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One was shot entirely on IMAX-certified digital cameras, making it the first Japanese film shot for the format. Godzilla Minus Zero opens September 26 in NY before debuting in Japan November 3 and North America November 6.

The sequel takes place in 1949 and follows the rebuilding efforts of Japan after World War II and Godzilla’ destruction. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe reprise their roles from Godzilla Minus One, joined by Masami Nagasawa, Jun Kunimura, and Kou Maehara.

Sai Pallavi, Ranbir Kapoor Lead Cast

Ramayana: Part One stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravanan (Ravana) and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Ravi Dubey reprises his role as Lakshmana across both films.

Ravnopath is being split into two films directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations are producing with Sony Pictures Entertainment handling international sales. Dharma Productions acquired the Indian rights, reportedly for Rs 250 crore. The first installment will release in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.

Part Two will arrive theaters worldwide to coincide with Diwali in 2027.

Ramayana vs Godzilla Internationally

Ramayana will likely compete with Godzilla Minus Zero internationally for premium large-format and IMAX screens. Overseas territories where the two films may go head-to-head include the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. Godzilla boasts the brand recognition of its predecessor, which collected $106 million globally and won Best Visual Effects at the Oscars earlier this year.

Ramayana producer Yash has described his film as the most expensive project ever made in India. Hindi movie press notes suggest a budget of around Rs 1,900-2,000 crore ($250-$263 million) for Part One. Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman composed the musical score while Terry Notary and Guy Norris served as stunt coordinators and choreographers, respectively. DNEG is handling visual effects on the production. More than 10,000 crewmembers were hired to work on Ramayana: Part One and Part Two, one of the largest productions in Indian filmmaking history.
