Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister actor Vijay, recently opened up about what he thinks will be his father’s reaction upon watching his directorial debut Sigma. Starring Sundeep Kishan in the lead role, the film is set to release theatrically worldwide on October 2, 2026.
Jason told Pearle Maaney on his YouTube series that Vijay is a person who doesn’t say much and takes time to analyse things. He revealed that he expects his father to take some time before reacting about the film.
“My dad is a very quiet person. He takes his time. If I ask him a question he’ll take 10 seconds before replying. If he’s quiet throughout I’ll ask him ‘Did you cut the call, Appa?’ Take your time, analyse the film, come to a conclusion and then call me/email me or something. I think you’ll take more time to sit down and analyse the film. But he’ll love the film; he’ll be proud of you,” Jason said.
In a different interview, Jason added that his father would take more time to analyse the film but would eventually be proud since it was his son’s debut film.
Sigma marks Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut in features. It is an action-adventure heist comedy film starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah.
Certification of the film was wrapped up last week ahead of its release date. Sigma was granted a U/ A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.
Along with announcing the film’s certification, the makers shared a fresh poster from the film on social media.
We already know the central conflict from the trailer of Sigma which was released on September 19. In the trailer, Sundeep Kishan’s character faces betrayal and loses everything. He decides to pull off the ultimate heist of a Rs 500 crore racket dealing in drugs and gambling.
Actor Sundeep Kishan and actress Faria Abdullah are joined by Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan, Yog Japee among others in key roles. Cinematography is by Krishnan Vasant while music is composed by S Thaman. K L Praveen did the editing. Lyca Productions’ Subaskaran produces the film.
Jason earlier confirmed that Vijay will not be part of the film’s promotions. The actor was speaking at a pre-release event when he said he didn’t want the promotions to revolve around his father.
“My father is waiting for Sigma’s release. He won’t promote my film. I want it to be all about the film and not him. I don’t want it to overlap. He’s become CM now so he has a lot of responsibilities on his shoulder. He’s waiting for the film, to see what I’ve done and he’s very excited,” Jason added.
The filmmaker also talked about wanting people to recognise him separately from the legacy his family has created. He hopes to create his own separate legacy with Sigma.
“In my head I think about it all the time, how people perceive me. But at the end of the day, when you’ve done your work, your work will speak. Basically after five minutes of watching the movie, it’ll only say ‘Directed by Jason Sanjay.’ Subconsciously they’re just going to watch it as a film. It doesn’t matter who I am. Whatever criticism I get, whether it’s positive or negative, the work will speak who I am,” Jason said.
The film was initially eyeing a July 2026 release. It had to shift the film as Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan also had a July release. Jana Nayagan faced a long delay due to certification issues. With Jana Nayagan set to release in July, Sigma was pushed to October.
Sundeep Kishan, who plays the lead role in Sigma, was full of praises for Jason Sanjay’s directorial efforts. During an interview, the actor said he was amazed by the narration by Jason Sanjay and was very sure about himself.
“He approached films like any director and I was floored by the way he narrated the story. He seemed very confident and knew what he wanted,” said Sundeep.
“Jason Sanjay wasn’t pressurised by his star father Vijay’s legacy or director grandfather’s stature. He made a film that stands out on its own. After five minutes into the film Sigma, you’ll only see it as Jason Sanjay’s film,” Kishan continued.
Sigma will release in theatres worldwide on October 2, 20 June. The film will be released across multiple languages.
